I designed my first wedding suite for a client back in 2019. Three rounds of revisions, two paper samples couriered across town, and a printer who called me twice about ink coverage. Ink. The printing method carries more visual information than the color does. Letterpress, flat foil, white ink, thermography. Each one has a signature the model already knows.

Layout. Say where things sit and how much air is between them. Wedding stationery lives or dies on margin. Most AI output crowds the edges because nobody told it not to.

Motif. One motif. Not a garden. A single sprig in one position beats a full floral frame every single time (this is the change that fixes 80% of bad results).

Light. Name the direction, the softness, and the shadow. Without it the card floats in nowhere.

Here is the base prompt I start almost every suite with. Swap the names, dates and palette and it holds up.

Start with paper, never with flowers

This is the habit that took me longest to break. My instinct was always to describe the pretty part first. Florals, script, mood. The model would give me all of that floating on a flat white plane, and I would spend three more rounds trying to bolt realism onto it.

Flip the order. Paper first, motif last. When the surface is right, everything you put on it inherits that realism for free.

It also lines up with where stationery is actually going. The 2026 trend reports all point the same direction: deckled edges across every budget tier, heavyweight cotton with a real letterpress bite, wax seals, and palettes that moved away from pale blush toward deep sage, dried rose and terracotta. Mixing methods in one suite is popular too, foil on the hero element, letterpress on the names, white ink on colored stock for the small details.

Good news for prompting. Those are all describable textures, and the model renders them well when you name them precisely.

What most people type: "Elegant wedding invitation, floral, beautiful typography, cream and gold."

What actually works: "5x7 invitation on 600gsm ivory cotton with a deckled edge, letterpress impression visible in raking light, names in terracotta calligraphy, details in small charcoal serif, one sage eucalyptus sprig top center, shot flat on linen with soft light from the left."

Second one is longer, sure. But look what it removed: the guessing. The first prompt hands four creative decisions to a machine that has no opinion about your couple. The second one makes those decisions for it and lets the model do the part it is actually good at, which is rendering surfaces and light.

One more thing on type. OpenAI's April 2026 image update pushed typography accuracy to a claimed 99 percent, up from the 90 to 95 percent range before it. That matters enormously here, because an invitation is basically 90 percent text. Names, dates, addresses. Two years ago I would have told you to generate the card blank and set the type yourself. Now I let it render the names and only rebuild the small print if a line breaks awkwardly.

Still proofread every date. Always. (Yes, really. I have seen a beautifully rendered "Saturday the 31st of June.")

The monogram is where you win the client

No gradients, no drop shadow, no additional text, no watermark.

Two details in there do the heavy lifting: "single hairline stroke weight throughout" stops the model from mixing thick and thin strokes, and "legible at 20mm wide" makes it simplify on its own. That second line is worth more than any style adjective you could add.

Presenting the suite (the part that closes the sale)

A single card on a white background does not sell a suite. A styled flat lay does. Envelope, RSVP card, ribbon, seal, one sprig, shot from above on a warm surface. That is the image couples screenshot and send to their mothers.

The trick is to generate the flat lay as a scene rather than assembling pieces. Ask for the whole arrangement in one prompt, name every object and its position, and specify one light source. Worth being clear about the money, because the gap is bigger than people assume. With the five layer structure, I land a usable direction in two or three generations. Without it, I used to burn fifteen and still end up hand fixing the paper. The prompt length is doing the work, not the luck.
